FBR is suspending its online systems — IRIS, the Digital Invoicing system, the Payment System, SWAPS and POS Registration — from 12:30 a.m. Saturday 8 August until 5:00 a.m. Monday 10 August 2026 for planned maintenance. FBR has advised taxpayers to complete time-sensitive returns, payments and registrations before 8 August. The squeeze: the sales tax Annex-C deadline is the 10th of the month — the same morning the portal comes back. Here's what to finish before Saturday.
What exactly is going down, and when?
- Window: 12:30 a.m. Saturday 8 August to 5:00 a.m. Monday 10 August 2026.
- Offline: IRIS (returns and registrations), the Digital Invoicing system, the online Payment System, SWAPS, and POS Registration.
- Reason: planned maintenance — FBR says the upgrade is to improve performance, stability and reliability.
Why this weekend is a filing squeeze
For the July 2026 sales tax return, the standard sequence is Annex-C by the 10th, payment by the 15th, and the return e-filed by the 18th. The portal is scheduled to return at 5:00 a.m. on the 10th — the deadline day itself. No extension had been announced at the time of writing, and tax bars were already pressing FBR over IRIS issues in late July. Treat the 7th as your real Annex-C deadline and don't bet on the portal's first morning back.
What should you finish before 8 August?
- File your Annex-C (and ideally the full July return data) by Thursday 7 August.
- Make any tax payments that fall due around the window before Saturday — the Payment System is included in the shutdown.
- Complete pending registrations or POS registrations before the window.
- If you're mid-way through digital invoicing integration (sandbox testing, token generation), pause plans for the weekend and schedule around it.
What about issuing invoices during the shutdown?
FBR's announcement does not spell out a contingency procedure for businesses that must issue digital invoices while the system is offline. Practical position: keep complete records of every sale in your software as usual, so invoices can be transmitted and validated as soon as the system returns — and watch for any FBR guidance during the window. If your software queues unsent invoices automatically, confirm that feature is on.
The bigger picture
This maintenance window lands in an enforcement-heavy season: from 1 July, importers not integrated with digital invoicing risk losing green-channel clearance, and the Finance Act 2026 gave FBR powers to suspend registrations and blacklist non-integrated businesses. A weekend outage is a reminder that compliance now depends on systems — yours and FBR's. Software that queues, retries and reconciles automatically turns events like this from a crisis into a footnote.
