For a sales-tax-registered business in Pakistan in 2026, the best accounting software is one that can issue an FBR digital invoice — which rules out most of the famous names. Our picks: AmalERP for businesses that want accounting plus POS and inventory in one system, Moneypex for the cheapest transparent FBR-ready accounting, and Zoho Books or Wave for freelancers who are not sales-tax registered. Full disclosure: AmalERP is our product, so instead of asking you to trust our ranking, this guide shows the real prices, FBR status and honest weaknesses of all 12 options — including ours. Prices were checked in July 2026 and change often; confirm on the vendor's own site before you buy.
The dividing line: FBR digital invoicing
Under SRO 1852(I)/2025, electronic invoicing is now mandatory for sales-tax-registered persons, with the final category live from 31 December 2025 and enforcement widening through 2026. A compliant invoice must be generated electronically and transmitted in real time to FBR through PRAL, which returns an FBR invoice number and QR code. Penalties for repeated default run into millions of rupees.
The same gap shows up in payroll: EOBI contributions and Pakistani tax slabs are local rules, and international accounting tools do not calculate them. If you run staff payroll here, that is a second reason the global names leave you doing manual work.
Here is the uncomfortable truth for anyone shopping by brand name: QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, Wave, FreshBooks, Sage 50 and TallyPrime have no native FBR digital invoicing. They are excellent bookkeeping tools built for other countries' tax systems. If you are registered for sales tax in Pakistan, that single fact matters more than features, price or how many YouTube tutorials exist. Check your own status first — if you are a freelancer or small service business that is not sales-tax registered, the global tools are back on the table and often better value.

1. AmalERP — accounting plus the rest of the business
AmalERP is our own product, so weigh this entry accordingly. It is a cloud ERP built in Karachi whose core is real double-entry accounting: every invoice, receipt and payment auto-posts a balanced ledger entry, the chart of accounts is created for you, and the system blocks entries that do not balance. On top of that sit POS with offline mode, multi-location inventory, manufacturing, payroll with EOBI and tax calculations, WhatsApp invoicing and AI-assisted data entry — so the books, the counter and the warehouse are one system rather than three. The Basic plan is Rs 2,500/month billed annually and includes 2 users; FBR and SRB tax compliance is a Rs 1,000/month module on top, and other modules are added the same way. The tax module links to FBR in real time through PRAL for digital invoicing, and separately to e.FBR for POS retailers, so both the invoice book and the till are covered.
- Honest weaknesses: FBR compliance is a paid module, not bundled into the base price; billing is annual rather than monthly; it is a newer brand than Tally or Peachtree, so there are fewer third-party consultants; and there is no self-hosted option.
- Choose it if: you need proper books and a POS or inventory operation, want rupee pricing, and want FBR plus SRB handled in the same system.
- Skip it if: you only need simple bookkeeping and are not sales-tax registered — a cheaper accounting-only tool will do.
2. Moneypex — the cheapest transparent FBR-ready accounting
Moneypex publishes its prices in rupees, which alone puts it ahead of most local competitors: accounting starts at Rs 2,000/month, with Standard at Rs 4,500 and Premium at Rs 6,000, and FBR e-invoicing is a Rs 1,000/month add-on. It transmits to FBR's system, produces the QR code for Tax Asaan verification, and also supports provincial tax. The catch is users: each accounting plan includes only one user, so a three-person finance team costs considerably more than the headline. For a small registered trader who needs compliant books and nothing else, it is arguably the best-value entry point in the market.
3. LedgerMax — unlimited users at a flat price
LedgerMax charges Rs 6,600/month (billed annually) for unlimited users, with free setup, on-site installation and training. If you have five or ten people entering data, that flat price beats per-user pricing decisively. It is Pakistan-built with local support and a long SME track record. Two caveats: there is no mobile app yet, and its FBR digital-invoicing scope is not spelled out on the pricing page — ask specifically whether it does live real-time transmission to FBR or only tax reporting before you commit.
4. Hisaab.pk — local suite with FBR services
Hisaab.pk (DYS Solutions, Karachi, operating since 2009) offers accounting, inventory and POS with FBR digital invoicing, and also helps with FBR POS registration. It is a credible local option with a real support presence. The drawback is opacity: pricing is contact-sales across its Basic, Premium and Enterprise editions, so you cannot compare it against the published-price options without a call. Ask for the total including any tax module and per-user charges.
5. SplendidAccounts — accounting with manufacturing
SplendidAccounts covers accounting, inventory, POS and light manufacturing for Pakistani SMEs, with FBR digital invoicing through IRIS/PRAL. It is a reasonable shortlist entry for a small producer that needs costing alongside books. Pricing is not published and subscriptions run on a quarterly minimum, so ask for the annual figure up front and take the 14-day trial before committing.
6. Zoho Books — best of the global tools, if you are not registered
Zoho Books is genuinely good software: a real free tier for businesses under roughly US$50,000 annual revenue, paid plans from about US$20/month, a modern interface and deep integration with the rest of Zoho. But there is no Pakistan edition — Zoho ships India GST and GCC VAT editions, not FBR — and billing is in dollars. For a freelancer or service business outside the sales-tax net, it is one of the best value options available. For a registered trader, it cannot issue a compliant invoice.
7. Wave — free, and honest about what that means
Wave gives you free accounting and unlimited invoicing, which is remarkable value for a micro-business or freelancer. The limits matter though: payments and payroll are US and Canada only, there are no Pakistani bank feeds, and there is no FBR support of any kind. Treat it as a clean place to keep simple books, not as a compliance tool.
8. QuickBooks Online — the global default, at a Pakistani cost problem
QuickBooks is the software most accountants worldwide know, with strong reporting and a huge app ecosystem. Simple Start is about US$38/month, Essentials US$75 and Plus US$115, with an increase applied from August 2026 — at current exchange rates the entry plan alone costs more per month than a full local ERP. There is no FBR digital invoicing and no Pakistan localization, so GST can only be approximated with custom tax rates. Intuit also stopped selling new QuickBooks Desktop subscriptions in 2024, so the old desktop copies common in Pakistani offices are a dead end. It makes sense mainly if you invoice US or UK clients and are not in the FBR net.
9. Xero — unlimited users, no local compliance
Xero's distinguishing feature is that every plan includes unlimited users, which suits a growing team, and its bank reconciliation is excellent. Pricing starts around US$25/month for Early, but that plan caps you at 20 invoices and 5 bills a month, which most trading businesses will hit immediately. No FBR support, no Pakistan localization, dollar billing and no local reseller channel.
10. FreshBooks — for service businesses, not traders
FreshBooks is invoicing-first software built for freelancers, agencies and consultants, with time tracking and a polished client experience, from about US$23/month. It is weak on inventory, which makes it a poor fit for the typical Pakistani trader, wholesaler or retailer. No FBR support. Consider it only if you sell services to overseas clients.
11. Sage 50 (Peachtree) — the one everybody learned on
Peachtree deserves a mention because a large share of Pakistani accountants trained on it, and old copies still run in offices across the country. It became Sage 50 in 2013 and today costs roughly US$29/month for Pro in the US market. Two hard facts: it is not officially sold or supported in Pakistan, and it has no FBR or Pakistan sales-tax capability at all. The copies still circulating locally are typically unlicensed and unpatched — no updates, no security fixes and no route to compliance. Familiarity is a real advantage when training staff, but it is not a reason to build your next five years on it.
12. TallyPrime — cheap, capable, and built for India's tax system
Tally is widely known across South Asia and its perpetual licence — around ₹22,500 for single-user Silver — works out very cheap over several years compared with subscriptions. Its accounting and inventory are solid. But its e-invoicing connects to India's Invoice Registration Portal, not Pakistan's PRAL, and there is no Pakistan sales-tax or SRB module. If a reseller tells you Tally is FBR-ready, ask to see a live FBR-numbered invoice with a QR code before you pay.
Also worth knowing
- Odoo Accounting — at about US$7.25 per user per month it is the cheapest route into a full ERP, and it is the one international product with a real FBR path: third-party Pakistani modules on the Odoo app store handle digital invoicing. The compliance layer is maintained by a module vendor rather than Odoo, so factor in partner support.
- Udhaar Book — free, used by well over a million small businesses, and genuinely useful as a digital khata with payments built in. It is a cashbook, not double-entry accounting, and it has no FBR digital invoicing.
- FBR's own PRAL portal — the government's free option. It is manual data entry rather than accounting software, but for a very small taxpayer it is a legitimate way to issue compliant invoices at zero software cost.
- Local FBR-focused tools — BizSuite, GENTEC, NimbusRMS, SadaHisab and CISePOS all offer FBR-integrated invoicing or POS; several are POS-first rather than full accounting systems.
How to choose in five minutes
- Are you sales-tax registered? If yes, shortlist only software that can transmit to FBR in real time — that alone eliminates most global brands.
- Do you hold stock? If yes, pick something with real inventory (AmalERP, LedgerMax, SplendidAccounts, Odoo), not invoicing-first tools.
- How many people will use it? Per-user pricing (Moneypex, Odoo, QuickBooks) punishes bigger teams; flat unlimited-user pricing (LedgerMax, Xero) rewards them.
- Ask every local vendor the same question: does your FBR module transmit invoices live and return an FBR number and QR code, or does it only produce tax reports? The answers differ more than the marketing suggests.
- Take the trial and run a week of your real invoices through it, including a sales-tax invoice to a registered buyer, before you pay for a year.
